Talking Points

* At what point will the phrase "openly gay" be retired by the American Media? If you report in the New York Times that someone is "gay", it's out in the *open*. If you were reporting on who was "the first closeted gay serving as US President" then maybe go for it, but everybody knows Ronald Reagan rocked the cock.

* I have been brought low today by clams and flu. I will not attend tonight's reading at the Poetry Project, and will miss Javier & Ali and also the haunting eyes of Crush List member Scappettone. Spent last night in the early stages of the stomach battle, reading STATE OF WAR and variously passing out with fever. [Deleted because some people are dicks.]

* The poem from New Year's Day is also posted here. I use the slave name only to claim it before it is used by others against us. Perhaps it is a term we can use like other slurs to get one another's attention. Anyone over 40 uses it and it's *on*. Bloody noses! Drive-bys. That it needs to be retired and used only in jokes is *clear*. I am currently designing some P-A wear, but will brutally attack anyone I see using the phrase ever except as a punchline. I am talented at making people *very* sorry.

* For example: the term has been used recently by Ron Silliman, Allen Bramhall and Joshua Corey (note scare quotes). They should stop using it. Maybe it can be their New Year's Resolutions. Like "Creep" Poetics before it, it was a funny joke whose time is over. The use of this term reminds me of the way empty-headed Limbaugh fans bark "ditto!" Even if it is being used skeptically, it is solidifying it's place as a meaningful phrase with each usage. Stop.

* Although I like Pete Carroll and Reggie Bush I am taking Texas in the upset of the new century tonight in the Rose Bowl. USC will suffer a setback of its own hype. They got all the breaks against Notre Dame (and that illegal push by Bush should come back to haunt them). Longhorns will find a way, perhaps in many overtimes. You heard it here first.

* Mets trade flotsam to Dodgers for jetsam. Or is it the first volley in a massive Manny Ramirez trade? Manny will find a new home this week (I'm feeling it) and I'd rather it be at Shea. Can you imagine him bouncing homerruns off the magic homerrun hat with the big apple in it? Make it happen, Omar.
